Obsessed with traditional culture, I always intend to apply traditional elements to the artworks I produce. Today, I'll show you a few pieces of jewels I designed with the pride I have in my traditional culture.
Chinese Myth
Pixiu, a Chinese mythical hybrid creature which resembles a strong, winged lion, was used commonly in Ancient China, since it has been considered as a powerful protector who can ward off evil spirits and prevent wealth from flowing away. Among all the Pixiu ornaments, jade ones are the most commonly seen.

During Chinese NY 2014, I designed this charm bracelet with a Pixiu. Red and green convey a sense of Chinese festivity and Pixiu good luck.

Chinese Idioms
Since the character for fish has the same sound as remaining, fish symbolizes abundance. When the fish was served during the last meal of a lunar year, it was a tradition not to finish it all, representing every year has remaining food (enough food), because in ancient times, Chinese people relied on agricultural yields which were unstable due to the monsoon climate.
2018 winter, when I designed Fish & Blue Bubbles bracelet, the ancient wish for abundance was what I had in my mind.

Chinese Craft
Za Ran is a unique dyeing art in Chinese tradition. It is a dyeing method in which the fabric is partially ligated during dyeing so that it cannot be colored.
(Surprisingly Wikipedia has a lack of China's under the entry "tie-dyeing")

In high school I was privileged to have the chance to learn how to do Chinese Tie-Dyeing. In summer 2018, I folded the two piece of cloth that I dyed into the shape of fan and made them into a pair of earrings.

This is me doing a simple version of Za Ran on Jan 8th 2019 after 2 years.

Cloisonné is a decorative work in which enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing.
